9.50 hours Experience: Minimum one (1) year clinical experience in
medical-surgical, emergency room, or critical care. Minimum one (1)
year related experience in hemodialysis as a dialysis nurse.
License: Current RN License required. Certifications: Basic Life
Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
required. Must-Have: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
Description: Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing,
Hemodialysis Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care
to patients who require hemodialysis. This care is based on the
application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to
general nursing care, Hemodialysis Nurses are responsible for
ongoing focused physical, psychosocial, and pain assessments. They
assess patient education needs as well. Utilizing assessments, they
identify problems, make nursing diagnoses, and formulate goals,
teaching plans, and outcomes to create individualized plans of
care. Hemodialysis Nurses prioritize and implement an efficient
nursing plan of care. They consistently conduct timely evaluations,
recognize changes in patient conditions, and adjust plans of care
as necessary. They compare expected and achieved outcomes of
nursing care and communicate with other healthcare team members.
Maintaining an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients is
crucial. They recognize and report errors, near misses, or unusual
occurrences, and initiate corrective action when appropriate.
Hemodialysis Nurses develop short and long-term goals specifying
expected outcomes and communicate these goals at multidisciplinary
meetings. They are responsible for making accurate and complete
entries into patient medical records, addressing all steps of the
nursing process. Demonstrating competency in setting up and
operating the dialysis machine is required. Assessing patients'
vital signs, weight, and pain is essential. They observe for signs
of volume overload and complications of renal failure.
Understanding critical lab values and knowledge of special
procedures related to dialysis is necessary. Hemodialysis Nurses
initiate and terminate hemodialysis treatments for patients with
various access types. They monitor blood pressure regularly or more
frequently as needed. Ensuring access site visibility and securely
taping lines and connections to avoid separation is important. They
observe for complications such as air embolism, hemolysis, and
arrhythmias, reporting any issues immediately. Preparing and
administering prescribed medications and reporting adverse
reactions in accordance with policy is required. Recognizing the
signs and symptoms of respiratory emergencies and knowing how to
initiate interventions is essential. Efforts to prevent
hospital-acquired conditions and falls are part of their
responsibilities. They refer patients for health maintenance and
initiate referrals to outpatient clinics and community resources.
Utilizing resources in planning care and consulting with other
healthcare professionals is necessary. Requirements Required for
