all persons.Job DescriptionSUMMARY OF DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Triages and prioritizes patient care in accordance with WMED
Nursing policy and procedures.
- Initiate life saving measures independently within scope of
practice (must be certified in BCLS, ACLS & PALS).
- Provides care in accordance with WMED Nursing policy and
procedures.
- Collaborates with Emergency Medical Team to establish a plan of
patient care.
- Performs appropriate assessment and obtains pertinent history
relates to chief complaint.
- Checks and records all vital signs.
- Anticipates patients' needs for expedition of diagnosis and
treatment, e.g. obtain specimens and perform or refer patient for
diagnostic tests as ordered.
- Recognizes safety hazards and initiates action to eliminate
hazards.
- Actively enforces Infection Control Practices.
- Reports and records information regarding patient's status and
responses, clearly and promptly.
- Documents administration of all medications and responses to
medication in medical record.
- Identifies those components of the nursing care which may be
Delegated to ancillary nursing personnel and provides teaching and
guidance necessary
- Participates in defining, maintaining and interpreting
standards of nursing practice
- Participates in discharge planning.
- Utilizes community resources in dealing with total needs of
patient and family (social, educational and vocational).
- Self-directed in completing assignment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and sequence of action in
emergency situations.
- Offers praise and recognition for achievement to elevate
patient's self-esteem.
- Involves family and significant others in planning care.
- Initiates consultation with health team members as needed.
- Identifies problems and assists in their resolution.
- Participates in audits of care as part of quality assurance
program.
- Conducts conference to develop nursing care plans and to
promote staff development.
- Participates in self-evaluation.Minimum Qualifications
- A valid New York State license and current registration to
practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State;
and
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and
current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the
American Heart Association (AHA).Special NoteFor assignments in
Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria
may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing
education program registered by the New York State Education
Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered
Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN.
These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation
pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must
apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited
permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for
up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit.
In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a
valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through
